TZANEEN: Agri-Expo talks all things agriculture

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) hosted the fourth Annual Agri-Expo at the Tzaneen Showground last week.

The two-day expo gave an opportunity for emerging farmers to network and learn from other farmers, agricultural companies to exhibit and demonstrate their new technologies and products and high school learners who want to study agriculture further.

It began with a gala dinner which was strictly by invitation only, held at Karibu Leisure Resort on Wednesday, September 27.

Dr Sheila Mokgabudi, CEO of Gentis Biosciences, holding her product GentiShe Menstrual cup which she hopes to introuduce to every girl in the country, speaking during the Mayor’s breakfast and networking session at Hotel@Tzaneen.

The event was graced by Investors from all over the country, international stakeholders from over ten countries, councillors, GTM officials and its stakeholders.

“Our focus is development and eradication of poverty, we wish to live a legacy that will live for a lifetime,” said GTM Mayor, Maripe Mangena, during the gala dinner.

A Mayoral Business Breakfast and Network Session was held on Thursday at Hotel@Tzaneen before the expo began at the showground.

Livy Mashiane, Department of Agriculture, Proffessor Elliot Zwane, University of Limpopo, Goodenough Nethengwe, NYDA and Vusi Sithole, Limp Deprtment of Agriculture.

The aim of the breakfast was for local farmers to mingle with potential investors and for all stakeholders to come up with ways of taking agriculture to a high level in Tzaneen.

Mayor Mangena said that GTM is ready to interface and work together with people who are willing and capable of taking Tzaneen to greater heights.

Jerry Shirinda from the National Youth Developmental Agency stated that capital available to invest within the Limpopo Province and especially in agriculture.

At the show different companies took full advantage of the opportunity granted to them and exhibited their products and services to the community of Tzaneen.

A career exhibition for local high schools also took place at the expo, learners were given the opportunity to learn from different industry experts, lectures from the University Of Limpopo and other agricultural colleges.

Dr Sheila Mokgabudi, Chairperson of Gentis Biosciences, launched her GentiShe Menstrual Cup to the Tzaneen community during the expo.

Dr Mokgabudi’s menstrual cups will be manufactured in Nkowankowa in the near future.

Mayor Mangena also added that his dream as a mayor of GTM is to establish a satelite campus for agriculture in Tzaneen and he believes it is a possible dream.
