UPDATE: Major breakthrough in fight against cable theft

Two suspects were arrested, cars, copper and aluminium cables worth R4 million were also recovered during a police operation in Tzaneen and Phalaborwa Clusters last week.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said two suspects aged 25 and 38 were arrested and suspected stolen items recovered during an operation comprising of various police units and private security companies.

The following items were recovered during the operation: Copper stolen at the Phalaborwa Mining Company and Transnet, aluminum cables from Eskom, 60kg of unmarked copper cables, 20 litres of transformer oil, four metres blue scale, Black Mercedes Benz C 200, grey BMW, yellow Isuzu KB, black Nissan XTrail, white 813.E 22 TATA truck.

Meanwhile, one of the arrested suspects, Richard Nkuna (25) from Xihoko Village appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court for receiving stolen property.

He was remanded in police custody until October 18, pending further investigations.
