Offline systems lead to long lines at GTM…

After numerous calls and e-mails regarding long lines and offline systems at GTM, Letaba Herald reached out to the municipality for comment.

Letaba Herald has received a number of calls and e-mails from residents with complaints about the long ques at Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) when registering/renewing their licenses.

In an effort to reassure residents that something is being done about the issue we reached out to the municipality to receive clarity on the situation.

GTM spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, has released a statement to the Herald with regards to the issue.

“Due to a backlog, which is a result of system disruption caused by the Telkom network two weeks ago, we have decided to extend our hours of operation to address or minimise the backlog.

“This week we start at 07:00 and end at 18:00. We have four cashiers, three are dealing with the public directly and one deals with car dealerships. On Saturday we are open from 07:00 to 14:00.

“We will assess the situation and see if there is a need to extend our working hours next week as well. People must come early, it’s first come first serve. We also prioritise pensioners:

“There is an option to use the Post Office for those seeking to renew their vehicle licenses, however registration and change of ownership can only be done the municipality.

“This service can also be accessed in any local municipality in the province.

“We urge our clients to be patient with us a there will be long ques and the cashiers can only a certain number at a time.”

If you experience problems further at the municipality or Post Office with your vehicle license, feel free to contact the Herald at: blakel@herald.co.za or bertus@herald.co.za.
