Woman of substance

Herald continues celebrating women who are leaders in the 'male dominated' fields.

“Women are natural leaders, we are already managing our homes by planning and delegating at work we are also doing the same at work, it is just on a proffessional manner,” said Doris Selepe.

Selepe is the manager of Eskom Giyani Sector (Maintenance and Operating Environment) which encompasses Giyani Municipality, Letaba Municipality and some parts of Greater Tzaneen Municipality.

Herald continues celebrating women who are leaders in the ‘male dominated’ fields.

She was born and bred in Seshego outside Polokwane and is the second born of six children.

She received her Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Heavy Current at Capricorn FET in Polokwane and afterwards joined Eskom as an intern and she kept on growing in every post she held in the organisation.

She held her current position since 2012 and says she still wants to achieve more.

“Men are accepting of female leaders in the corporate ladder, my potential was recognised by them.

Our organisation has great opportunities for women and it recognises our potential, however there will always be a few who don’t believe that women can be leaders but at the end of the day your work as a woman will speak for itself,” added Selepe.

She also outlined that it is challenging as woman to balance work and family at times but it is possible to succeed in both areas.

“I have a great support system, my husband is a great help in balancing both my work and family, I could not do it without him,” expressed Selepe.

The mother of five urges women to take advantage of all the opportunities that are available for women and to let their lights shine where ever they are.
