Vantshwa Va Xivono hosted the Young Lady of Vision Tea Party where they invited 10 learners from each of the local high schools in Nkowankowa to celebrate Women’s Month with them on Saturday.

In its second year, the event was held at Nkowankowa Community Hall where successful female entrepreneurs shared their knowledge and wisdom with the young people.

Katekile Mathye of Theledi Beverages which produces the renowned Mati, Angela Shikwambana Managing Directors and a corporate finance trainer at MA Recruitment and career fair encouraged the learners to break through the glass ceiling and reach for their goals.

The event is seen as important in times when young people especially ladies are challenged by social ills such as teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and abortion. Activities to empower them to take care of themselves, reach for higher goals and start their own businesses are needed.

Studies show that when women are supported and empowered, all of society benefits.

The empowerment of girls is vital to their transformation, into being powerful leaders who will be able to realise their full potential.

The project aims to motivate girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to become leaders & change agents in their schools and communities at large.

This will be achieved by empowering and supporting them to start and grow their own businesses and community projects.

Furthermore, the plan is for the high school girls to go and start projects in their schools which will encourage their peers to also reach beyond the glass ceiling, thereby creating an infinite ripple effect.

This project is in line with the government’s objective to develop entrepreneurs in order to create sustainable employment and reduce poverty.

In a nutshell, the project encompasses, generating business ideas, business/project planning and implementation.
