Swift police action leads to arrests

Two men were arrested for business robbery and car theft at Nkuri village in Giyani.

The incident occured last Thursday, August 10.

The suspects aged 28 and 33 were arrested soon after robbing a hardware store in the village.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said four men driving a red Toyota Corolla arrived at the hardware store and pointed firearms at staff and customers demanding cellphones and money.

They drove off in the owner’s car after robbing them of an undisclosed amount of money and three cellphones. Police reacted swiftly and managed to arrest two of the suspects.

During the arrest, police found one rifle, four rounds of ammunition, R520 in cash.

They also recovered the hardware store owner’s bakkie.

At the time of going to press, the two remaining suspects were still at large and police investigations are continuing.
