GIYANI: Woman shot dead, husband injured

A 62 year old woman was shot dead, her husband injured while her daughter was robbed at Xikundu Village in Saselamani on Sunday night.

It is alleged that the victim was shot dead by unknown attackers after she opened the door for her daughter who was from work.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the woman’s 62 year old husband was injured and her daughter robbed off cash amount of money but she escaped unhurt.

The suspect’s are unknown and there was no arrest at the time of going to press.

The tolice investigations are still continuing.

Meanwhile, ANC in the province has condemned the continued killings of women.

“We are on the eve of women’s month, August, and these senseless killers remind us to be more vigilant in our struggle to ensure total liberation of women from the last vestiges of triple oppression.

We call upon all structures in our society to come together and commit ourselves to defeat the demon of women abuse and killings. Our society must once again become more protective and caring towards its women and children,” said provincial spokesperson, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.

She urged the community to ensure that criminals have no comfort zones in our homes, streets, neighbourhoods, schools and work places.

“let’s work together with the law enforcement agencies to volunteer information and help investigators to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to book,” said Ntshavheni.
