TZANEEN: Heists have people worried

Three serious cash-in-transit heists in and around Tzaneen during June have police and residents of Tzaneen worried.

On June 14 a security guard was seriously wounded when suspects opened fire with rifles at a cash-in-transit vehicle along the Trichardtsdal road.

According to a police report, the suspects attempted to blow it up with explosives but they failed and fled the scene without any cash.

The wounded security guard was taken to hospital and is recuperating.

Four firearms were taken from the guards.

It is believed that there were eight suspects according to Marius Jacobs of Watchdog Tzaneen.

The police says the suspects allegedly used two BMW’s, one with a North West Province registration.

No arrests have been made and police investigations are continuing.

Robbers targeted a G4S Security vehicle on Monday, 12 June, in the Giyani area, according to another police report.

The vehicle was robbed after they collected money at a local shopping centre.

“The suspects allegedly held the guards at gunpoint, beat them and took an undisclosed amount of money. They sped off in a sky-blue Audi registered 06413GP,” says police spokesperson Captain Mamphaswa Seabi.

A cash in transit vehicle was allegedly attacked and bombed on June 1 with explosives and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen, read a police statement.

The driver and his two crew members sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

The suspects used a white BMW and a Toyota Fortuner with unknown registration numbers.

No arrests have been made yet.
