SAPS gives girls confidence

The Lestitele Police Station recently launched its project called 'Girls with Confidence' at Ntsako Village near Lestitele

The project will be focusing on giving sanitary pads to school girls within the Tzaneen Cluster which includes Ritavi, Maake, Bolobedu, Mokwakwaila, Tzaneen, Lestitele and Modjadji areas.

On the day 76 girls were given three packets of sanitary pads each.

About 20 families were given food hampers and 176 school boys were also given school uniforms.

Tzaneen Cluster Commander, Major Gen Maggy Mathebula with other SAPS officials at the launch of ‘Girls with Confidence’ in Lestitele recently.

“The reason we embarked on the project is because from personal experience I know that heavy flow during periods can cause a girl not to attend school for days.

Education is very important, we cannot afford for our girls to skip school and as a result fail because of a lack of sanitary towels.

Some of these girls cannot even afford buying the pads, they use a sock with sand inside as a pad which exposes them to different unitary tract infections and rashes,” Said Sergeant Vicky Nkuna, Initiator of the Project and member of the Lestitele SAPS Management Information Centre.

Spar Lestitele was the main sponsor and they will to continue partnering with the police station in future occasions.
