“It is alleged that the 19 year old victim was sleeping in the early hours of Sunday morning when she was disturbed by a cellphone light that was shining in the room”, stated Sergeant Livhuwani Mulaudzi, Hoedspruit police spokesperson.
According to the information provided to the Hoedspruit police, the victim allegedly woke up and tried to set her candle alight as their household had no electricity.
“The suspect, Simon Monyela grabbed the matchbox from the victim then proceeded to rape her in the dark. After the incident took place, the victim asked the suspect if she could go drink some water in the kitchen, the suspect agreed following her closely behind”, Mulaudzi further told the Herald.
Once in the kitchen alight was shining in through the window, which is believed to be that of a neighbor.
“The victim managed to identify the suspect before could escape through a window”, concluded Mulaudzi.
