TZANEEN: The Letaba Fire Protection Association (LFPA) set of this morning to assist in the fire combat in Knysa.

The LFPA have sent their secondary helicopter off to Knysna and Plettenberg Bay this morning to assist in the devastating fires that’s raging there.

Plettenberg Bay residents have started to evacuate as the devastating fire that started burning in the Kranshoek area on Wednesday has spread to the outskirts of the coastal holiday town, reports the Knysna-Plett Herald.

On Wednesday evening, Knysna is experiencing gale force winds and fires raging in many areas, reports the Knysna-Plett Herald.

Knysna fire chief, Clinton Manuel, has confirmed the worst: the fires in Knysna are “out of control” and “there is a slim chance of stopping them”.

Areas affected and evacuated, as confirmed by Manuel, are Brenton, Belvidere, Welbedaght, Eastford, Green Pastures and Knysna Heights.

Knysna residents from every part of town are taking shelter from the storm near the water and at the Knysna Yacht Club.
