Family day celebrated

Families South Africa (FAMSA) celebrated the International Family Day on Monday at their Tzaneen branch.

The United Nations (UN) has declared May 15 of each year to be International Family Day worldwide.

The UN has declared the 2017 theme to be “Families, education and well-being”.

This year’s focus was on the role of families and family-oriented policies in promoting education and overall well-being of their members.

“This year we held a competition where we asked the members of the Greater Tzaneen area a few questions about their families and what they do to strengthen their family system,” said Genevieve Heyns, Senior Social Worker at FAMSA Tzaneen.

The shortlisted participants attended the occasion with their friends and family members.

“A cohesive family builds character, commitment and self-worth.

A child that grows in a loving family is likely to be a good citizen.

And Strong families build a strong nation,” expressed Evans Lebepe, Senior Social Worker at FAMSA.

Some of the lucky participants won prizes which were sponsored by Romans Pizza and Park Butchery.

“I am very happy to have won the voucher and also grateful to FAMSA for inviting me to be part of such a wonderful occasion,” said Rose Matlou from Dan Village, one of the competition winners.

Nelly Munduku, one of the student Social Worker, said that she was happy with the response which the community of Tzaneen has shown towards the event.
