Tzaneen: Minister’s unannounced local visit

The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, conducted a Front Line Service Delivery (FLSD) at Sekororo Village on Friday.

The visit was part of the sixth National Imbizo focus week where executive members from the three spheres of government (national, provincial and local) interactedc with communities across the country.

Radebe was accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale and Maruleng Municipality Mayor, Happy Thobejane and Chief Sekororo.

Radebe conducted an unannounced visit to three front-line services which were identified by the department which were Sekgalabjana Secondary School, Sekororo Hospital and Sassa Sekororo.

“I’am not happy with the administration of the school, however the SASSA offices are running smoothly and I’m also not pleased with the hospital. DeIt currently has nine medical officers, instead of the 40 required and the beds are supposed to be about 240 but there are only 60 beds,” said Radebe when asked about his findings of his unannounced visits to the three instutions.

“Lack of infrastructure, under staffing as we currently have three vacant positions which are not filled,” said Phetole Rasekhokha, Acting Principal of the School when asked about the three main challenges the school is facing.

Sekgalabjana’s current grade 12 pass rate is 65% a decline from the 77% from the past year.

Rakgoale promised to come back in January to check the progress of the school.

Afterwards the minister and his entourage went to attend the imbizo at the Hlohlokwe Community Hall, where the community members were given a chance to state their concerns in terms of service delivery.

“We are the only sub region in Limpopo without a Technical and Vocational Education and Training College (TVET), please prioritise education and water,” said Sodi Mogomane, a local resident.

Some of the issues which community members mentioned include, lack of electricity in other areas, bridges, a shopping complex and the absence of Magistrate Court as the locals utilise the Lenyenye Magistrate Court which is in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality area.

“We currently have three bridges available and will be given to the six villages really need it the most,” said Happy Thobejane, Maruleng Municipality Mayor.

Radebe assured the local community that their concerns will be dealt with and he also appreciated their hospitality.

“I urge local entrepreneurs to take advantage of the gap and be part of the development of the area,” added Radebe.

The minister also assured the local granny soccer team that he will give them a soccer kit and balls they requested from him.
