SASSA and other departments take services to the people

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) reached out to the community of Zangoma on Friday.

SASSA hosted their Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) there.

The event which was held at the Zangoma sports grounds was aimed at taking services to the people. The event was attended by various departments including Home Affairs, Social Development, SAPS, Health, Education and Emergency services.

Malatswa Molepo, assistant manager of customer care, said it is their duty to take services to remote areas where people are forced to travel long distances.

During his address he urged people to put their grant money to good use.

“The money should be used for what it is meant for, which is basic needs. Stop using the money for gambling and stokvels,” said Ramphelo.

He also advised community members to report those who are getting grants but are not suppose to. TL Hlungwani from Sassa warned community members of people loaning money claiming to be working for Sassa. “Sassa does not loan people money, do not give your personal information to people,” she said.

The department of health represented by Faith Nghala, educated them about the dangers of malaria since there were three cases reported in the area. She said that people die from lack of information.

Community members were keen to get more information from the departments that were present. People did not need to go to town on Friday as services were brought to them. New grants applications were made and others renewed theirs. Affidavits and documents were certified and many other services were rendered.
