TZANEEN: GTM forms a gender and men’s forum

"The two forums will assist in monitoring the social ills and will assist our people with issues that affect the community."

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) established the Gender and Men’s Forum at Country Lodge last Thursday.

“The two forums will assist in monitoring the social ills and will assist our people with issues that affect the community,” said Dikeledi Mmetle, Speaker of Council.

The meeting was attended by different stakeholders which included South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Legal Aid South Africa (LASA) among others.

Cassius Machimana, Acting Mayor of GTM, will be the chairperson of the Men’s Forum and Minkateko Mbhalati will be the head of the Gender Forum.

“Today we are happy women are in parliament and we say that we are all equal, men rights are women rights and women rights are men rights,” said Machimana.

Machimana added that despite gender equality males must protect their female counterparts.

The other members of the men’s forum are Philly Kamelo, Frederick Motlousti, Sphiwe Mthembu, Jonas Mathebula, Samuel Mahasha, Sydney Ndlovu and Hilton Ndlovu.

Meanwhile the other members of the Gender forum are Peter Maake, Miranda Phalane, Vinolia Mofewa, Francina Chauke, Happiness Chauke, Phylly Kamelo, Tebogo Monyela and Hilton Ndlovu.

“This forums can bring change in our communities if we are vocal about Gender violence and issues affecting men.” said Sonia Ngobeni, Manager at the office of the mayor.

The two forums will be running for the next five years and will take solutions independently.
