Tzaneen’s Mayors cup on point

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) held its annual Mayors Cup at the Lenyenye Stadium on Saturday.

The host GTM Mayor, Maripe Mangena graced the event watching most of the games and handing over the trophy to the winners.

MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Onnica Moloi and the Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale also graced the occasion.

Marathon, Fun run, and Netball were played at the stadium while golf was played at the Tzaneen Country Club.

Teams which participated in the Netball Cluster Development category are Lesedi, Bulamahlo, Relela, Runnymede, Nkowankowa Shining Stars, Golden Birds, Mountain Tigers and Dynamic.

Lesedi won the Netball Cluster Development competition group taking home a R3 000 prize money.

On the Netball Workers group four teams participated, GTM, South African Police Service (SAPS), Mighty Queens, Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency (GTEDA) and South African Democratic Teacher’s Union (SADTU) Justice Buthelezi Branch.

In the finals GTM beat SAPS 15-1 taking home a cheque of R3000 in prize money.

Ladies soccer also took place and teams which participated were, Sisters FC, Runnymede, Mountain Tigers, Relela, Golden Birds, Bulamahlo, Happy Queens and Lesedi.

Sisters FC won 7-0 over Mountain Tigers at the finals.

The men soccer in the workers category was in two groups (A and B) and the development category (under 21).

Teams which participated in the development group were Nkowankowa Barcelona, Lesedi, Julesburg Arsenal, Bulamahlo, Motupa Dev, Relela, Dynamos FC and Runnymede.

Nkowankowa Barcelona won 2-0 over Julesburg Arsenal in the finals and took home R5000 prize money, soccer kit and soccer balls.

“I am very happy that my boys won the cup and this shows that currently Nkowankowa Barcelona is the best in the development teams in Mopani.”

And in the Men Workers category, Group A teams were Van Velden Hospital, Ritavi SADTU, SAPS, Malaria, and Christian and in Group B, GTM, SADTU (Justice B), Pick n Pay, Letaba Hospital and Eskom.

In the finals Letaba Hospital beat Van Velden Hospital 1-0 to be crowned the champions and they also took home R5000 prize money, soccer kit and soccer balls.
