Campaign brings hope for graduates

Two local young people recently started a campaign which supports and fights for the rights of graduates after acquiring their qualifications at a tertiary level

Devon Mhlarhi and Mabatho Maake started the #Ka Tika Campaign which means ‘it is hard’ in Xistonga, referring to the challenges of getting a job fresh out of university.

“The concept of the campaign started last year when I started applying for jobs and I did not have the experience the companies required from me to get placed in their organisations,” said Mkharhi Founder of #Ka Tika Campaign.

The campaign has already engaged organisations such as Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Families South Africa (FAMSA) and the Department of Labour for cooperation.

Sky High Engineering Consultants made contributions to the campaign and FAMSA and Mental Health Limpopo have offered them opportunities.

“We want graduates to be given a chance in the workplace either by volunteering and experiential opportunities and permanent placements,” Mhlarhi added.

Graduates who are facing difficulties in acquiring the necessary skills or opportunities are urged to be part of the movement.

Mhlarhi pleads with the community to help in any way they can but mostly with office equipment such as computers and printers.

The campaign plans to spread all over the province including Polokwane, Hoedspruit and Giyani.
