PHALABORWA: Helicopter in tree tests the spirit of EMS

A frantic call about a helicopter in a tree had the Phalaborwa Emergency Services in full action on Christmas day.

Only to find that the frantic call was misunderstood and two young boys merely needed assistance from the Fire Brigades long ladder to retrieve their toy drone from a tree.

Jaco Gericke from CPF Medical in Phalaborwa posted on his Facebook page that they received a call from the Fire Department.

‘A Helicopter crashed in the trees opposite Caltex in Phalaborwa. We all responded. CPF Medical, Mopanya 911, Fire Department, SAPS and CPF Crime.’

Only to find out upon arrival at the ‘scene’ that it was a little toy drone helicopter high up in a tree.

‘The boys phoned the Fire Department for help with a ladder but the call was miss understood,’ Gericke said.

In true Christmas spirit, Gericke said: ‘The call was so-so funny, a very good mock call for all of us in Phalaborwa.’
