Admission for 2017 begins this week

Teaching and learning  to start on the first day of schooling in Limpopo.

This is what will happen again in 2017.
This however, will be possible if parents register their children in schools on time.
It is the responsibility of the Department of Education to ensure that every child of school going-age is in school on the first day.
This can be achieved if parents enroll their children as early as May 16 to June 21 2016 to prepare for the 2017 school calendar.
The administration of learner admissions is the responsibility of the school management.
However, the Department has a Constitutional obligation to make sure that all children get access to education.
Guided by the Constitution of South African terms of section 29 which guarantees the right of everyone to basic education and the South African Schools Act (SASA) which requires ordinary public schools to admit learners without unfairly discriminating them in any way, the Department will make sure that every qualifying learner is admitted next year.
If a child is going to school for the first time or relocating to a new school, registration forms from the school nearest to the parents home or work address must be collected from the beginning of 16 May 2016 and returned to the school
by no later than June 21 2016.
In case of secondary admissions preference will be give to learners from feeder schools and curriculum needs.Parents will be informed of the outcome of the applications by end of November 2016.
In terms of the SASA, as amended, children for grade 1 can only be registered if they are 5 years old turning 6 on or before 30 June 2017.
Those who are 4 turning 5 on or before June 30 2017 must be admitted into grade R.
To register, parents must take the following documents with them:
Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth date
Immunization card
Transfer card
Last report card
If one is not a South African citizen, the following documents are important:
Study/work permit
Temporary or permanent residence permit from the South African Department of Home affairs
Evidence to show that there is an application for permission to stay in South Africa.
The principal of a public school must keep a register of admissions.
All admissions of learners to the school must be recorded in the admissions register that will be submitted to the department.
Any formal complaint from parents whose children have not been admitted can be lodged through the nearest circuit offices.
