Mayor calls for traditional leaders to work together with government

The newly appointed Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgaole, has called all traditional leaders in Mopani to work together with the government in order to take service delivery to the people.

Rakgaole was speaking during the inauguration of Mopani’s new council held in Giyani Community hall.

“Our traditional leaders must work with us as government so that we might take services to the people because we both govern people.

Time for blaming each other is gone we must speed up service delivery in order to make Mopani one of the best municipalities in South Africa,” she said.

She also congratulated the Modjadji tribe who just received the Queenship from the president Jacob Zuma and pledged that they will work and support each other.

“I would like to congratulate the Modjadi tribe for having their queenship bestowed to them again and been recognized by our government.

We as municipality of Mopani we will support and work with them in order to take services to our people,” said Rakgaole.

She also urged various stakeholders such as church and business community to work in hand to with the municipality to eradicate poverty and unemployment in the area.

Wireless Sedibeng was retained as the speaker of the municipality and Martha Maswanganyi as chief whip.

DA leader Rene Pohl said “as the DA we will make sure that we fight against corruption in the municipality and make sure that we don’t disappoint people who have voted for us.

“EFF councillors walked out of the council when it was their turn to speak.

Mopani District Municipality consist of 53 councillors and 11 traditional leadership that will represent other traditional councils.

The EFF has three seats, DA six seats and 44 is the ANC.
