‘False’ pharmacist arrested outside Tzaneen

A 34 year old male was arrested outside Tzaneen on Thursday for operating a Pharmacy without a license.

The Hawks’ Commercial Crime Unit intelligence driven operation that led to the arrest of the nurse in Sekororo as he was in contravention of the Medicine Control Act.

During the operation a search at his pharmacy was conducted and medication which requires a license to be sold and a prescription to purchase were found.

Large quantity of medication assumed to have been stolen from the Department of Health was also found on the premises and was seized.

Medical aid claim forms were also discovered at the pharmacy and the pharmacy was shut down immediately.

The suspect has appeared at the Maake Magistrates court on Friday August 19 and was granted R800 bail and is set to appear again on September 26.

Meanwhile in Mamaila Village another pharmacy was also closed down for operating with another registered pharmacy’s license.

A large quantity of medicine, medical aid claim registers and other financial registers were also seized.

The owner of the pharmacy is soon to be arrested for fraud, contravention of Medicine Control Act and operating a pharmacy without a license and Investigation are underway.
