Police warns community about female con artists

The Police warn everyone who place their cars for sale on OLX, Junkmail and Gumtree to be alert of two female con artists.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects are two African ladies with one of them presenting herself as Primrose Kunupi.

Dressing well to give an impression of wealth, the two suspects drive around in a black Mercedez Benz or a black VW Polo using Gauteng Province number plates.

“These syndicates go around using false cellphone banking details and stealing peoples motor vehicles, mainly targeting companies.

Three cars have already been stolen through fraudulent activity in the Tzaneen area, which are a VW Amarok, a Nissan Navara as well as a Hyundai i20,” said Ngoepe.

Once one has decided to sell their motor vehicle to the con artists they will receive an SMS from a similar number the bank uses to correspond your banking activities.

This will persuade the seller to hand over their motor vehicle and its papers.

The seller will then later realise that they have been conned and there is no money in their account.

The Police also urge community members to avoid transactions after hours, Sundays and public holidays because it is important for you to get confirmation from the bank that the money is indeed there before handing over a sold car.
