Injured woman rescued after 3 days

A 50-year old woman had to be carried off a mountain in the Trichardtsdal area by members of the Search and Rescue Unit, K 9 and EMS from Makhado and Giyani after she was injured.

On Sunday July 24, Martha Thobejane a resident of Matloulela Village, while on a trip to the mountains of the Lekgalametse Nature Reserve to cut grass, slipped and broke her ankle.

Some of her companions walked out of the mountains and alerted the SAPS to her predicament, while others stayed behind with the unfortunate Thobejane until help could reach her.

The Air Wing from the SAPS attempted to assist but due to cloudy, misty and rainy conditions could not access the area.

Members of the Search and Rescue Unit, K 9 and EMS from Makhado and Giyani reached the area early Tuesday morning and succeeded in bringing the woman to safety.

It was not easy and it took them the whole day to do so.

Sometimes the terrain was so difficult that they had to take turns in carrying the woman on their backs.

She was taken to the Dr CN Phatudi Hospital in a satisfactory condition.
