New humps: The talk of the town

Multiple residents have complained about the new speed humps built in Claude Wheatley Street, Tooley Street and Agatha Drive.

Multiple residents have been complaining about the new speed humps built in Claude Wheatley Street, Tooley Street and Agatha Drive.

They were not painted, there were no boards to warn drivers of the humps and a lot of road users said their vehicles have been damaged because the humps are too high.

The speed humps have been painted since and small danger signs have been put up next to the speed humps.

Only the hump in Claude Wheatley has been fixed but the others are still as they were.

“We are going to assess all speed humps in the area concerned and where there is a need to adjust and put up relevant signage we will do so,” said the municipal spokesperson, Neville Ndlala.

According to Ndlala, the municipality already attended to some of the speed humps after they also received complaints about them from motorists.

“Speed humps are necessary in assisting the municipality to curb reckless driving and prevent accidents on our roads and streets,” concluded Ndlala.

Letaba Herald asked the readers on Facebook what their thoughts were on the speed humps and the community had their say.

The majority said that they are too high and their vehicles already sustained damage from them.

Other people feel, implementing them was a good idea, because it will slow down the traffic on the roads.
