MAGOEBASKLOOF: Two accidents on one day

There were two truck accidents on the Magoebaskloof road on Wednesday and the question remains, what are the trucks doing on that road?

On Wednesday afternoon a truck,  was in an accident on the Magoebaskloof road.

The cause of the accident is still unknown.

Wednesday morning, another truck’s brakes failed, crashed into another vehicle and burst into flames, disrupting the traffic flow.

No one sustained serious injuries in either accident.

Since the Georges Valley road was closed down, after a culvert collapsed, more trucks have been using the Magoebaskloof road.

For years, truck drivers have been warned multiple times about the dangers of the deadly road and to stay clear but still the drivers choose to ignore it.

The alternative route for heavy vehicles is the Mooketsi/Modjadjiskloof road.

It is believed most drivers avoid the Mooketsi road because it has a weight bridge.

Other possible reasons are that drivers rely on GPS and are not aware of repairs on the Georges Valley road.

There is however, a big sign at the Polokwane bypass, informing drivers of the repairs.

Whatever the reasons, Magoebaskloof is not suitable for heavy vehicles.
