Beware of municipal tender scam

The Greater Letaba Municipality is urging the public to beware of people, who are going around in the name of the mayor, Godfrey City Modjadji, promising residents municipal tenders, in return of a bribe.

This followed after unscrupulous people, masquerading as representatives of the mayor, approached prospective contractors promising them tenders in exchange for money.

Municipal spokesperson, Lovers Maenetje, said the matter came to light after one of the contractors who was approached by the scammers alerted the mayor.

Maenetja advised anyone who is approached by these criminals to immediately call the police.

“The mayor has absolutely nothing to do with this, as it is a scam. We want to urge community members to be vigilant about things like these. They must know that jobs and tenders are not for sale, anyone who comes with such intentions should immediately be reported to the police,” she said.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police.
