Be smart-get your smart ID card online

The Department of Home Affairs has launched the eHome Affairs system.

This system lets citizens to apply for their smart cards or passport online, however at the moment it is only open for people aged between 30-35.

The rest have to wait.

This development is after the trial of eChannel in 2015 which operated via the bank.

The Home Affairs is known for its long queues, and they are moving towards an innovative way to ease citizens frustrations on delivering services.

It is hectic and time constraining, especially for people who have to travel long distances early to queue for these documents which are very significant.

To use the eHome Affairs system you must first be eligible, therefore register on eHome Affairs.

After the system opens, you will be able to submit applications, upload supporting documents, pay for online fees and schedule branch visits.

When the application has been submitted now you must visit the nearest branch or supported bank to have both fingerprints and photograph taken..

Upon completion the department will send an SMS when the smart ID or passport is ready for collection.
