Leydsdorp legacy to be revived

The long awaited re-opening of the historical and famous Leydsdorp Hotel is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 20.

The new management team at Leydsdorp, Le Roy Smuts, Henk Coetsee and Marina van Rensburg, confirmed that the Hotel is destined to be converted from just a local watering hole to a tourism attraction with visits to the old mine shafts, game drives, Sunday buffets, a varied a’la carte menu, conferences, events, functions and regular performances by famous artists.

“We obviously want to be the venue of choice for all the locals and particularly neighbouring and nearby farmers and their families. However, we also want to focus on conferences of all kinds, weddings, engagements, celebrations, year-end functions, exciting game drives and meals that will suit everybody’s taste and preference,” the team said.

The historical mine shafts are situated on the Kapiri Hills Farm adjacent to the Leydsdorp Hotel and have thus far been inaccessible to visitors.

Farm owner and developer of the Leydsdorp Hotel, Kobus Smuts, has now opened the whole property to tourists which will include game drives to a buffalo camp, an idyllic bush camp and a variety of other options.

“We will start off with full menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Sunday buffets for the whole family once a month. We also intend to host regular artists that will offer dinner and dancing and a host of social options. Children parties or events suitable to the beautiful swimming pool and equipped lapa will also be on offer. Add to that wine tastings and special promotions with sports on the big screens and you have the full package worthy of a visit for a variety of options,” the excited team added.

The hotel also has a rare full size snooker table and they invite locals to form a private snooker club who will also take exclusive control of the pool table. Any suggestions from locals are welcome.

“We have the ideal venues and surroundings to offer a very personal and romantic bush braai for a couple getting engaged or just want to be alone right up to an extensive product launch or corporate event. We invite everybody to come and visit us and any suggestions and requests will be considered,” adds Marina who will be mostly responsible for the marketing of Leydsorp.

Unfortunately there is limited cellphone reception at Leydsdorp and telephone lines should be installed soon.

In the meantime the best way to contact the team is via email at jvr.marina@gmail. com and kodri@global.co.za. Pay them a visit – you will be pleasantly surprised with the renovations and extensions.

The cosy rooms are all air conditioned with DSTV and offers the ideal break-away.

See you there!
