In the footsteps of Louis Trichardt

Forty-five Grade 9 students from Stanford Lake College embarked on their first expedition for the year. This consisted of 3½ days of hiking, starting at Sekororo and finishing in Penge, taking the route followed by Louis Trichardt in 1838 by ox wagon.

The group trekked through some of the most beautiful and interesting locations South Africa has to offer, including the Christmas plateau and the vicinity of the sites where people still to this day are digging to try and find the elusive Kruger millions, believed to have been buried before his exile.

Reaching Penge – and of course, the shop! – the students readied themselves for an eventful rafting experience on the Olifants River.

The water level was very low this year, but they still faced some testing rapids and experienced the full force of nature.

A truly amazing expedition which none of them will forget, with many memories made along the way.

Well done to all the Gr 9s for finishing this wonderful but challenging adventure!
