Motorists received goody bags

Motorists who were pulled over by Tzaneen traffic officers last Wednesday were in for a pleasant surprise.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality, together with the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Association staged their yearly Easter Arrive Alive event last Wednesday.

Members of the traffic department, management and employees of the GTM as well as members of the Chamber of Commerce, stationed themselves just outside Tzaneen, in order to present passing motorists with free goody bags to drive home the point of Arriving Alive at their destinations.

Motorists went from alarmed faces to relieved happy smiles, once they realised they were not about to get a ticket when pulled over. “The idea is to give motorists a welcome break while travelling long distances across our beautiful country. The contents of the bags are not only tasty, but also an informative glimpse into the tourism hot spots of our area,” Melaine Botha, secretary of the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce, told the Herald.

Easter is known as an execptionally dangerous time to be driving long distances in South Africa. Initiatives like this will go a long way in making our roads the safe corridors of transport the citizens of this land deserve.
