A traffic officer in the employ of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality was struck by an allegedly speeding vehicle on the outskirts of town yesterday. He died on the scene.

According to GTM media liaison, Neville Ndlala, the officer, Hector Mlondobodzi, tried to pull a speeding motorist over when he received the fatal injuries. The motorists left the scene of the accident, but drove straight to local SAPS to hand himself over.

Police investigations are still continuing and more details about the accident will be revealed when they are made available. “The officer’s next of kin have been informed about the tragedy and the mayor will visit the bereaved family to offer her condolences,” Ndlala told the Herald.
