District awards top performers

The Mopani Excellence Awards Ceremony for the 2015 Matric results, was held at Magoebaskloof Hotel last Thursday.

The ceremony aimed at awarding best performing learners, teachers, schools and circuit was hosted by he Mopani District Municipality in partnership with sponsors.

The Department of Education Mopani District director Dr Lydia Mafenya said she was not impressed by the matric results of last year but, however emphasized that it was not too bad and that she expects an improvement for this year’s results.

Mafenya applauded the teachers, principals, circuits and the learners who did very well last year and encouraged them to keep on doing the great job.

The categories included the top student in Mathematics, which was won by Khanyisa Makhubele from Zivuko Secondary School who got an impressive 300/300 marks,she walked away with R5000 prize money,a

tablet and a laptop.

Makhubele says she is studying medicine at the University Of Cape Town and she is the third one in her family in the field as her two older sisters are also doing second and third year in medicine.

Tzaneen circuit took top position one in terms of pass rate followed by Mangoepe and Nkowankowa circuit, St Georges College in Nkowankowa won the top spot for 100% Bachelors in the Independent Schools category.

The Mopani District Mayor, Nkakareng Rakgoale congratulated the winners. She said that she was not impressed by Maruleng area because it performed poorly and that as she is from Maruleng, the area did not represent her well.

She added that Maruleng is very capable of producing great results, they must stop making excuses and start working.
