Mentally disturbed teenager brutally murdered
Seloane residents are still shocked with the horrifying news of a brutal murder of a 12 years old mentally disturbed girl last week in Prieska.
According to Lulekani Police Station Communication Officer Constable Khensani Mabasa, Loveness Masuku went missing on Wednesday and her body was discovered in the nearest bush on Thursday afternoon.
“Her family and fellow residents were worried after she didn’t return home on Wednesday night and one of the residents while herding cattle discovered her body that had a throat cut and a 30 years old suspect was arrested on Thursday, but later released as preliminary investigations didn’t link him to the murder,” she explained.
Mabasa added that on the same Thursday at night, community members alerted police officers that a 40 years old man could be the one responsible for the brutal murder and was later arrested.
“The suspect has since confessed to be the one behind the murder and will be appearing before the Lulekani Magistrate Court on Monday morning to face a murder charge. DNA was taken to establish the root cause of the murder and also find out if the teenager was raped before she was brutally murdered,” noted Mabasa.
She further said Masuku’s family is impoverished and as such do not have the funds to send off their loved one in a dignified manner.
“We have in partnership with the provincial team embarked on a campaign to source donations to help the family towards giving her a respectful funeral and we are calling on Good Samaritans to assist the family during this painful period,” explained Mabasa
