Wife killed after husband’s shooting in Maake

A woman was killed by a mob after her husband was shot dead by an unknown man at Lephepane village on Sunday Morning.

It is alleged that the couple, who own a tavern, was asleep in the early hours of Sunday, when unknown men knocked on the door saying they wanted to buy a beer.

The man allegedly refused to open the door, but the woman let the men in.

They shot the man, before escaping with his identity document and a safe containing an unknown amount of money.

The man was taken to Dr CN Phatudi Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

A mob of villagers who had gathered at the scene attacked the woman with various objects including bottles and stones until she died.

This, after she was accused of working with the men who killed her husband.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe identified the two deceased as the owners of Seepane tavern, Phenias Shai (60) and his wife, Anna Baloyi (68).

He said no one was arrested and appealed to anyone with information regarding the two killing incidents to contact the nearest police station or the Crime Stop number 0860010111 or the crime line 32211 or Brigadier Thomas Shingange at 082 565 8155 for 24\7.
