Car-hijacker sentenced to 15 years imprisonment

A car-hijacker was sentenced to an effective 15 years imprisonment by the Regional Court in Tzaneen last Thursday.

Elijah Life Chauke (24) was found guilty and convicted of hijacking a Nissan NP200 driven by 57 year-old man on Tarrentaal/Letsitele road in May last year.

The victim testified that he was driving his car at around 15:00 when Chauke and his friends asked for a lift.

“I gave them a lift and along the way, chauke threatened me with a panga and ordered me to get out of the car before driving off,” testified the victim.

The car was later found abandoned at Rwanda village in the N’wamitwa area.

“This is one of the achievements made by the police, assisted by members of the community in the fight against crime.

Police management highly appreciate the support received from members of the community,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
