Dangerous criminals arrested

A SOMALIAN national and two of his accomplices were arrested and an illegal firearm recovered during a joint police operation at Maake and Ritavi areas at the weekend.

During the arrests of the suspects aged 22, 23 and 36 years old, a 9mm firearm, magazine and ammunition were recovered.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a special police joint operation conducted by the Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit, Task Team (Tekkie Squad), Crime Prevention, Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit targeted crime hot spots in Maake and Ritavi areas.

He said the arrested suspects are linked to a series of crimes ranging from business robberies, armed robberies to possession of firearm and ammunition without license.

The suspects were due to appear before the Ritavi and Naphuno Magistrate Courts respectively on various charges.

He added that more arrests are expected and the suspects may face more charges as the initial investigations reveal that they were responsible for terrorising community members in and around the areas.

“We would like to thank the community for giving us information which led to the arrests of the suspects and we are still encouraging them to bring more until their areas are free from any criminal activities,” said Ngoepe.
