BREAKING NEWS: Retired reverend in hospital after farm attack

A well known resident and retired reverend, Louis Pienaar, was attacked at his home by three armed men on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects gained entry to the farm in the Broederstroomdrift area by cutting the fence.

The men had a firearm and a panga with them.

Pienaar was outside when the three suspects overpowered him and hit him over the head with the panga.

His wife witnessed the incident from inside the house and pushed the panic button.

The suspects fled immediately.

Pienaar sustained serious head injuries but is in a stable condition in hospital.

Surpisingly, according toTzaneen Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the motive for the attack remains uncertain, since nothing was stolen.

It is however difficult to imagine any other reason for the incident than an attempted robbery.

Northern Security was the first on the scene, but it wasn’t long before the SAPS arrived as well.

No arrests have yet been made.

A ranking member of the police was in an accident on the way, when he rolled his vehicle at a dangerous bridge on the way to the scene, but wasn’t seriously injured.
