Government blamed for death

A five year-old girl lost her life and her sibling was rushed to CN Phathudi Hospital last Wednesday after the two were hit by a car at a road near Lephepane.

The community of Lephepane, Khujwana and surrounding areas are blaming the government for failing to construct speed humps.

Mpapa Rakgoale, who represent community members said they have approached all the offices including, the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Mopani District Municipality, the Batho Pele offices, Office of the Premier and the Presidency since last year without getting any help.

“We have been to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality but we were told there was no budget for the speed humps. We then went to the district offices and we did not get any help,” he said.

Community members believe if the speed humps were erected the death would have been prevented. Communication officer at the office of the premier, Phuthi Seloba confirmed that they have received the complaint from the community about the speed humps.

“We are working on the matter. We have asked the Head of the Department of Roads and Infrastructure to attend to their matter,” he said.
