Police launch rural safety strategy

Police in the Tzaneen Cluster officially launched the National Rural Safety Strategy at Tzaneen Show Ground Hall last Wednesday.

The strategy is aimed at enhancing service delivery through accessibility and rapid police response, integrated approach in the fight against crime, community safety awareness and rural development.

Speaking during the launch, Tzaneen Cluster Police commander, Brigadier Thomas Shigange said the newly launched strategy is also about the involvement of all police units so as to realize the multi-disciplinary approach.

“All in all the strategy is about the strengthening of the principle of sector policing, embracing the community policing forums, community crime prevention initiatives in the form of patrollers, street committees and crime watch with traditional leadership also playing a vital role,” said Shingange.

Shigange called on all the police station commanders within the Tzaneen Cluster to rope in all stakeholders and make sure that the strategy is launched soon at the respective policing areas.

He warned those who block the roads and use violence during service delivery protests that they will face the full might of the law.
