Countrywide shortage of TB vaccine for new borns still an issue

The countrywide shortage in TB and Polio vaccines for new born babies is a huge problem in the bigger scheme of all things South African.

As a country already struggling under the assault of TB no chance to fight this terrible disease should be missed.

According to government figures almost 20 000 South African citizens die from TB every year.

The problem with the vaccine shortage seems to be on the import side of things, as we do not not manufacture the vaccine ourselves.

Maybe that is something the Government should seriously consider.

Our medical scientific community is still considered world class and it should be no problem for us to manufacture our own vaccines.

In which case a shortage could easily be corrected by simply making more when more is needed.

The protests on the Lydenburg Road last week as well as in the Phalaborwa area last week is yet another example of South Africans trying to fix a problem with the wrong tools.

Violence and property damage should never be seen as a way to demonstrate unhappiness.

Respect for your fellow citizens and their property must weigh at least the same as your own problems and by destroying other people’s property or stopping them from getting to work, you are only creating more problems for everybody.

Still, a government under siege should sit up and take note of the growing number of protests resulting in violence and property damage countrywide.
