No work on deadly Tarentaalrand road

More questions than answers and certainly very confusing and evasive responses from parties involved.

That is the story of the Tarentaalrand/Nkowankowa road which is turning more treacherous by the day as potholes widen and deepen and construction has come to a complete standstill.

The contractors, JN Thosago Transport, who was contracted to repair the road, squared the potholes off and two days later upped and left leaving the road even more dangerous than when they started.

For more than two months now, the large, square holes have been unattended and put the lives of every road user at risk.

A spokesman for Thosago transport, Jerry Nkopodi, said on Friday that maintenance will start again “around the 16th”.

On Monday, however, Nkopodi made an about turn and claimed that construction was underway at that moment.

The HERALD can confirm that was a false statement as a visit to the site confirmed that there was no form of maintenance in process and no workers in sight. Numerous enquiries directed to the Department of Transport failed to generate any response.

On Friday an official, who did not want to supply her name, said that she had a commitment from Thosago Transport that maintenance will continue on Tuesday (last).

By mid morning Tuesday there was still no sign of any repairs or construction on this dangerous and very busy road.

Meanwhile motorists are left guessing as no conclusive answers are forthcoming from either the contractor or the Department.
