Pay the price displayed on the front page

The management of Herald Group of Newspapers has learnt with shock and disappointment that there seems to be some vendors selling the paper at a price not approved by the paper and its management.

A concerned reader, told the Herald that as per his normal routine of buying the paper weekly, he went looking for the newspaper last Thursday afternoon.

“Surprisingly, I popped out R10 to buy a copy and as I was waiting for a change; the storekeeper gave me a change of R5-50. I then asked him if the price of the newspaper has increased? The guy said 0,50c is for commission, I said to him that the price on the newspaper is R4,00 including vat. He then said to me his boss said they add for commission. I then said Hell no I can’t buy a copy of R4, 50c,” said a fuming reader..

The management of Herald Group of Newspapers on Monday said the reader has very good reason to be concerned.

“Nobody may charge more for a newspaper than the price displayed on the front page. That price includes a commission for the vendor/seller. It is illegal and unethical to sell newspapers at a higher price than that indicated on the cover. We will investigate and should this proof to be a regular occurrence we will scrap the vendor/seller as an outlet for our newspapers,” said

The correct retail price for Phalaborwa Herald remains R3.00, Letaba Herald R4.00, Mopani Herald R1.00 while Hoedspruit Herald at R2.00 and these prices includes Vat.
