Three families left homeless

Three families were left homeless at Ga-Matswi in Bolobedu following a ritual murder related attacks last week.

Angry members of the community went on a rampage burning houses belonging to the three families whose members they accused of being responsible for the death of an elderly woman who was found dead in the village after she went missing for weeks.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said following the discovery of the elderly woman’s body the community accused members of three families of killing her for rituals.

He said police acted swiftly to rescue the victims who were being attacked by the community and took them to a place of safety.

“After the victims were rescued, angry residents burnt down their houses,” said Ngoepe.

He said a police special task team has been formed to investigate and arrest all the perpetrators of public violence, assault and arson.

“We are going to leave no stone unturned to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to book,” warned Ngoepe.

He further warned members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
