Job seekers ripped off

A man believed to have swindled unsuspecting job seekers out of thousands of rands appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Kgashane Wesley Kapa (37) of Block 18 in Bolobedu is facing charges of theft under false pretence after promising job seekers work in exchange for cash.

According to Modjadjiskloof police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kgamedi Seshoka, Kapa who posed as a police Colonel, pastor or sometimes a recruitment agent for health institutions was arrested in Tembisa, Gauteng where he was hiding after fleecing many people of their hard earned money with promises of jobs.

He was found with more than 20 curriculum vitae’s belonging to job seekers, mostly from Limpopo and Gauteng province.

His arrest followed after two of his victims opened cases at Modjadjiskloof Police Station after he failed to get them employment as clerks and cleaners at the station.

Seshoka said six more victim have positively identified him as the person who took money from them after promising them jobs.

The victims claim the suspect took between R930 to R19 000 depending on the kind of job they apply for.

“It is believed that he took advantage of job opportunities advertised in the media to swindle job seekers of their cash,” said Seshoka.

He said the suspect was known to have been operating throughout Limpopo and Gauteng. Kapa was remanded in police custody pending further investigations. He was due to appear for bail application at the time of going to press.

Police appeal to anyone who might have fallen victim to the conman to call Modjadjiskloof Police Station at 015 309 1723.
