Water remains a crisis at Kubjana

Water remains a big concern in our local communities yet plays an essential role in people's lives.

The community of Kubjana do not have it a different way either. They have to wait and queue in the dark just to get a basic necessity of life, water.

Robert Rabothata and Thomas Ramoshaba, both residents of Kubjana village thought it better to come up with a plan to give water to the community from a borehole that is not used.

The borehole was dug for a community farming project, which plant vegetables and cook for less fortunate children in the community.

“We stopped the youth from embarking on a strike since Mopani District Mayor Nkakareng Rakgaole promised to attend to our water crisis in February but until today nothing has happened” said Ramoshaba, the chief of Kubjana Village.

Ramoshaba came with a temporary pump that helps the community to access water.

“We have written several letters to the Mopani District Municipality and the letters were given to councilor Moses Mahasha and he since promised to come back to us and we are still waiting for him even today” added Ramoshaba.

Contacting Mahasha for comment he indeed acknowledged that he received the letters and has since taken to the municipality.

“I did receive letters from the community of Kubjana and I have taken the letters to the district municipality.

Water crisis is everywhere in Tzaneen and Mopani District Municipality is busy trying to find solutions to the water crisis in all clusters” said Mahasha.

The temporary pump uses electricity so it was agreed within members of the community that each household will contribute R10 monthly so that electricity is bought and people get water.

“We are appealing to the municipality to attend our pleas before another strike arises” said Rabothata.

Mopani District Municipality was contacted with no success at time of going to press.
