GTM installs stalls for vendors to the value of R1.1 Million

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) partnered with the Limpopo Economic Environment and Tourism (LEDET) to install 14 decent new stalls for vendors who sell where the old Checkers used to be.

The vendors used to prepare and sell their food from plastic makeshifts.

The new stalls are said to have cost a total value of R1.1 Million.

Ten of the stalls are used by women who prepare food while four are used by fruits and vegetables vendors.

The food stalls boasts two-plate gas stoves, 9 kg gas cylinder, sink with running water, lockable storage and a small fire extinguisher.

Although the process is not complete yet as they still need to erect some fencing, the vendors are happy.

They said they would be happy if gutters were installed because they suffer on rainy days.

Mokgadi Nkoana, of GTM’s Local Economic Development (LED) section said once everything is finished the place will attract more customers.

It is said the vendors will pay rent which will be used towards maintenance.

She said this will generate something for council.

Nkoana added that all vendors will be enrolled for training.

She said hopefully by mid April everything would be done and they would have handed over officially.

‘We are also going to build nicer and proper shelters for them,’ she said.

The municipality had also partnered with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) to create branding for all the stalls.

On conclusion Nkoana said once they are done, they will also consider other parts of town which are not taken care of and also do the same in townships.
