GTM mayor visits schools

The Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM), Dikeledi Mmetle together with the Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale visited the best and low performing schools in and around Tzaneen on the first day of school.

GTM Executive Councillors were also present. The aim of the visit was to encourage under performing schools to improve while pushing the best performing schools to keep up the good work.

The Mayor’s entourage divided into three groups and visited the following high Schools Cata (100%), Pherehla Maake (88%), Phusela (84.5%), Serurubela(90.32%), Mukhapa, Mpumulani, Deeside (91.8%) and Xibukulana(97.25%) which produced the best results in their respective circuits from Bulamahlo, Lesedi and Runnymade Clusters.

According to Mmetle the annual back to school campaign is conducted the first week of each year when the schools re-open to check annual matric results in order to monitor progress.

She told the schools that it is possible for all of them to achieve 100% if disadvantaged schools in rural areas such as Cata and Mopye achieved it.

The Mayor addressed the Grade 12’s and 11’s of Bessie Maake, provincially rated the low performing high school in 2014 matric results. Other low performing schools visited in the same clusters are B. Mkhabele (31.81%), Hetiseka(33.3%), Mashoro(38%). Mpumulani (56.86%) and Mukhapa(63.15%) .

Teachers were encouraged not to lose hope.
