The African Paddling Association (APA) held a river guides’ course at the Blyde Adventure Camp from January 9 – 11 which Stanford Lake College attended the training.

The SLC Outdoor Adventure Centre staff (Haarhoff, Willson and Lize-Marie Engelbrecht) accompanied students Kemen Tribe, Amy Burman, Ryan Schultz, Keagan van Jaarsveld, Lachlan Truesdale and Marc Stirling.

The objective of the course was to equip prospective guides with awareness, basic skills and a sense of professional duty. The course covered practical and operational skills as well as the legal duties of guides. It was very hands-on and active, with daytime exercises on the river and night time lectures and discussions.

A great deal was learnt and much fun was had by all. Once again, a very successful course with comprehensive knowledge and skills gained.
