Community members promised water

The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale addressed the unhappy residents of Mokgoloboto on Thursday. The residents were logged in a two-day service delivery protest. They blocked the R36 Road and drivers were forced to use the Tarentaal Road.

This comes after the memorandum of demands which they submitted about a month ago did not get feedback.

One of their major demands is to have access to clean running water in every household. Rakgoale started her address by apologizing for not responding on time to the demands. She said as the district municipality it is their responsibility to supply people with water as it is the people’s right to get access to basic needs like water. “Our officials will start working as of today. They will fix all the pipes and boreholes,” she said. She further added that not later than next week the people will have running water.

Chairperson of the Mokgoloboto Community Development Forum, William Ramaila said they are satisfied with the respond they received. “We have formed a committee which comprises of representative from Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Mopani District Municipality and from our forum,” Ramaila said. The committee will deal with all the 15 needs demanded by the striking residents.

Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed that all the roads are open.
