A 27 year-old who allegedly raped his 82 year-old grandmother at Ga-Maphalle village, last Friday appeared briefly at the Bolobedu Magistrate court on Monday.
The suspect, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was remanded to police custody and his case was postponed to next week Monday for a formal bail application.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the suspect who stays with his grandmother, demanded the key to the house and she tossed it beneath the door. “Unbeknown to the victim, the suspect allegedly forced his way into the house, attacking the old frail lady by strangling her until she lost consciousness and then allegedly raped her,” said Mulaudzi.
He said after regaining consciousness a few minutes later, the old lady alerted the neighbours of her ordeal, who called her daughter and police respectively.
She was taken to hospital, where is recuperating well.
